Illustrious Sir Robert Hughes Foxwell (Khedive)

President of S.A.S.A. - 1979-1980

 

Robert Hughes Foxwell, Jr. died peacefully at his home on August 1. He was the son of the late Robert H. Foxwell and Ida Gwaltney Foxwell. Born in Norfolk in 1932, he was an All-State basketball player on the State Champion Granby High School team. He briefly attended William & Mary before enlisting in the US Army. He was a member of the Kempsville Masonic Lodge No. 196 and Khedive Shrine, where he served as Potentate in 1974 and as President of the South Atlantic Shrine Association in 1980, among other honors.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy Anderson Foxwell, his two children, Robert Scott Foxwell [Sharon] and April F. Oliver [Jeff], the grandchildren, Robert Jeffrey Oliver [Laura], Shelby O. Coates [Ben] and Robert Anderson Foxwell, four great-grandchildren [Korryn Coates, Miranda, Joel and Neal Oliver] and his brothers H. Boyd Foxwell [Deborah] and L. David Foxwell.

The family will receive guests at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments on Colonial Avenue from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. The funeral service, with Dr. Tim Dixon presiding, will be at the Freemason Street Baptist Church on Thursday at 2 p.m. with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. The burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Transportation Fund of Khedive Shrine or to the Zulekia Court Hospital Fund to support Shriners' Hospitals. Online condolences may be sent to the family through www.hdoliver.com.
